These rechargeable batteries use a lead–lead dioxide system for reliable energy storage. The design absorbs dilute sulfuric acid inside the separators and plates. As a result, the electrolyte remains fully immobilized and secure.

If overcharging produces hydrogen and oxygen, built-in one-way safety valves release excess gas safely. Therefore, the battery prevents pressure build-up and maintains safe operation. Under normal conditions, the sealed construction eliminates leaks and allows installation in any position.

Because of this sealed design, the battery operates without water topping or electrolyte maintenance.
